Job Description
Department the intern will be workingArise and Shine Childrens' Home, Schools and Training Centre
Job Description1Work with community to collectively bring social change and improve quality of life. Intern will work with the community to help in identifying their needs, opportunities, rights and responsibilities.
Job Description2Developing new community-based programs and resources, evaluate and monitor existing programs, and coordination of programs.
Job Description3Administrative work e.g preparing reports and policies, networking to build contacts and fundraising, liaising with interested groups and individuals to set up new services.
Job Description4Act as facilitator to promote self-help in the community, overseeing the financial management of a limited budget and going out for research periodically.
Job Description5Link the community to other authorities or statutory bodies. Get involved in addressing inequalities, and projects. Engage the community in making sense of the issues which affect their lives.
Job Description6Teaching in one of AASU's learning and study centers. This may depend on the Interns' skills and abilities.
Measurable results expected from the internFulfillment of the Job Description
Preparation required from the intern before arrivalCreativity and innovativeness, Research work on chosen focus ( refer to attached file), Recommendations to AASU, Willingness to learn and tolerance, Ability to adjust to the Jinja and Kamuli environment and work environment and schedule. Also learn more about the realities of an African local setting.

Other Details of the Working ConditionsThe intern will be issued a Certificate of Accomplishment. Interns also get a guide Tour to a chosen area in Uganda.
Learning points that the intern might obtain during the internshipA unique experience working in a community with a different reality. The intern will improve their intercultural relation skills, field work and research skills as well as administrative skills.
Additional information a potential candidate may require for the InternshipThe Intern will pay $130 which covers airport pick up from Entebbe to Kampala. It also covers accommodation up to a maximum of 2 months. After the 2 months, the intern will contribute $50 per month for accommodation. Intern should be able and ready to work in the community within less privileged people. This job requires you to live and work under very basic local conditions during some days. As a result, it is essential that you be flexible, open minded and willing to live and work very simply. A skype interview will be done by the Interns Director to ascertain that.
